ATS-friendly resume builder

An applicant tracking system (ATS) is software that stores applications and helps recruiters search them. It does not reject you on its own, but if it cannot read your resume or a recruiter's search does not find your skills, you are never seen. Here is how to stay visible.

The system pulls the text out of your file and tries to sort it into fields: name, contact, jobs, dates, education, skills. Recruiters then search or filter by job titles and skills. Anything the system cannot read as text, or cannot sort, is easy to miss.
Modern systems are better than they used to be, but these still cause trouble often enough to avoid.
Read the ad and note the skills and tools it names. If you have them, use the same words: 'stakeholder management', 'SQL', 'customer onboarding'. If you call the same skill something else, a recruiter's search may miss it.
Do not add skills you lack. You might pass a filter, but the interview will show it, and many recruiters read resumes closely.
A PDF with real, selectable text is safe for most systems. Send Word only when asked. Name the file clearly, for example 'Amal-Perera-Resume.pdf'.
CVForge writes with standard headings and real selectable text, and its Match the job view lists skills the ad asks for that your resume does not show, so you can add the true ones. There is also a plain text export for copy-paste application forms.
Usually not on their own. Recruiters set filters and searches; a resume that cannot be read or searched is simply not seen.
Many systems handle them now, but a simple single-column layout is safest for big portals.
No. Recruiters see it immediately. Use the ad's words only for skills and experience you really have.
No single score matches every system. Focus on readable text, standard headings and honest keyword matches.
